Aghori -The Way

Once an Aghori was sleeping at the cremation ground.

His left foot was inflicted with worms and they were eating his flesh.

For letting the worms have their feast the Aghori was sleeping on his right shoulder on the ground.

In the middle of the night, Maa(Mother) Kali appeared on the cremation ground with her followers and started the cosmic dance. Suddenly Maa Kali saw the manava – Aghori sleeping, she went to him and said

“Aye manav (O human being), as you have seen me it becomes necessary for me to grant you any boon you wish”

Aghori Saw Maa Kali and lying in the same posture did Naman(Holding hands in Reverence) to her “Maa, as a mortal I was able to see you, is sufficient for me. No other boon can replace this pleasure and happiness.

Aghori was about to get back to His sleep but Maa Kali was adamant on giving the boon,  Aghori repeatedly denied it but the force of Maa Kali was so strong that in the end Aghori asked for his boon.

Aghori said ‘Maa, if you are so persistent on giving me a boon, I will ask for it. As there is little flesh left in my left leg for these poor creatures to eat and they may die of starvation, please transfer the disease to my right foot so that they may survive a little longer.. Maa Kali smiled and blessed him and vanished. The Aghori got infection on the right foot and slept on the left side so that the poor creatures can eat his flesh without difficulty. On his purna- samadhi he was blessed with the light of the universe itself.
