By the morning of 20th August 2018 most of water levels at upper areas were going
down.
The huge amount of mud, dirt, insects and snakes now flooded the houses.
We heard the news that the Government has taken over the Rescue Homes. It was a beautiful thing and a better way for us to work. Our focus was to work with the cleaning of the houses and also provide support through Clothes, and needed materials.
The first movement began with cleaning of the houses and wells that were dirtied due to the floods.
We used generators and heavy motors to pump out the dirty water from the wells, it was a long a tedious work for the water levels at the periyar was still high and the adjoining paddy fields still had water. The cleansing of the rooms and houses was more tedious for the mud had now a clinging texture and was vry difficult to clean even with scrubbers, swipes, mops. It was saddening to see completely dirty clothes, vessels, walls, cupboards, floating electronic equipments be it refrigerator or TV. It was truly a loss for many documents which are essential turn into a pile of wet dirty useless lump. The work is still continuing as I write this for we have undertaken to clean nearly 150 houses.
