Potato- Zen

People who claim to love you will leave you the moment you need them most, people who claim to be ready to fight for you shall leave you the moment the fight begins, people who claim that they would sacrifice for you will push you to the limit and try to break you when you are weak, people look and seek very high goals in life but when the moment of truth is there they look for shelters.

People love to talk about sky while their needs are only basic, people seek high evolution but they never are ready for it. The truth is that people are not happy, they are not ready to enjoy life, being alive is a fantasy for them, they are burdened by society, religion, culture, books, religious leaders, family, it is really very difficult for them even to laugh, they manage to smile as if to hide a million tidal waves of sorrows within.

The day they leave the burden they are happy and maybe for the first time they may truly laugh for then they breath naturally… no not a breath of awareness or breathing with awareness but breathing naturally.

No struggle, no count, no holding nothing just being you as you are.

The story of Potato begins here, like always we have a old story where there was a sage who asked his disciples to carve out names of the people they cannot forgive on potatoes, one potato for each name.

Then, the disciples were asked to put all their potatoes in a sack and carry it with them at all times for one week. Easy task disciples thought. They wrote the names and put them in the sack and carried them. Some sacks were pretty large some small, but all the disciples had sacks and none of them were empty.

The longer time went by, the heavier the potatoes seemed to have become. To make the matter worse, those carved potatoes also started to rot and smells bad. It was such an unpleasant experience for the disciples.

At the end of the week, the master asked, “So, what did you learn?”

At once they disciples told the master that they now realized that holding on to grudges only brought negative things to them. Asked how they should go about correcting it, the youngsters said they should strive their best to forgive everyone that used to cross them and made them angry.

The master then asked, “What if someone crosses you again after you unload this present load of potatoes?”

The disciples suddenly felt terrified at the thought of having to start all over again with new potatoes, week after week. “What can Tao do if there are still other people crossing us? We cannot control what other people do to us!”

At which point the master replied, “We haven’t even reached the Tao’s realm yet. So far we only discussed the conventional way to approach forgiveness, that is, to strive to forgive. Striving is difficult.

In Tao, there is no striving.” Seeing the disciples completely at a loss then, the master further suggested, “If the negative feelings are the potatoes, what is the sack?”

The disciples finally grasped it, “Ahh the sack is something that allows me to hold on to the negativity. It is my inflated sense of self-importance!” And that was the lesson of this story.

Once we learn how to let go of the sack, whatever people say or do against us would no longer matter. The Tao of forgiveness is the conscious decision to get rid of the sack/self altogether, not just the potatoes/negative feelings.

It is such a nice story but very difficult to follow, for the wounds within are very deep from such people. We may forgive them but we truly can never forget them for the scar remains. The more you strive the more deep the essence remains, see this is the difference between living as a monk and normal person.

A monk becomes empty thus everything vanishes, a normal person cannot become empty, he has to transcend the bond with the scar. The beginning happens is by putting in efforts to mend the situation this truly allows your heart and mind to realize that you have given the best to the task thus a sense of guilt never remains. If things work out then you become more mature in handling the situations in a better manner. But even after the efforts if things do not work then expand yourself with the vision for today leading to a better tomorrow, where you may find better people, better relation and better life. The moment either one happens you change and it is a change always for a betterment
