In Hindu Dharma scriptures the force of energy that regulates, body, mind and connects to spirit is called Prana. Prana equivalent terms are considered to be Chi, Qi, Ki, Mana, Orgon, Kaa; but in reality none of these terms come close to Prana.
Prana is a subtler force compared to Chi, Qi, Ki, Prana, Mana, Orgon for it begins from Body and Mind wherein Chi, Qi, Ki, Mana, Orgon have relevance but then moves into the subtle aspects of spirit force wherein Chi, Qi, Ki, Mana, Orgon only talk about the resultant force that emerges from the subtler connection of the Prana within the body.
Prana functions at the body level through the Ten vayu’s that truly work on the regulation of all physical activities be it breathing, digestion, elimination, connection and balance between body and mind and its subtler functions.
Prana functions at the mind level through the Twenty-four vayu’s and at Spirit level it works through the Twenty Vayu’s.
At the body level the Prana works through Prana, Apana, Udana, Vyana and Samana.
(i) Prana – This energy works through the control of PRANA which at grossest level is seen and known as the power of breathing which includes inhaling and exhaling and is held in place through the Anahata Chakra. The location of flow is from the nostril to the Xyphoid point at the centre of the ribs.
(ii) Apana works from navel to the soles of the feet. Apana regulates the elimination process.
(iii) Vyana works through the nerves, and channels of flowing. Its flow is spread throughout the body and works through the Central Nervous System (CNS) and Autonomic Nervous System(ANS).
(iv) Udana is the ascending energy that flows from the heart to the head and brain. Udana Prana accompanies the awakening of the Kundalini Shakti.
(v) Samana is a very important Prana that connects two main Chakras – Anahata and Manipura Chakras.
These Five Prana works through five Sub-Prana Vayu’s or Upa-Prana’s
(i) Naga Upa Prana – Helps in Burping. It also helps removes blockages of Prana and Apana and prevents gas formation in the digestive system.
(ii) Kurma Upa-Prana– It helps in Blinking. This Upa-Prana works on the eyes, nerves related to eyes and brain and is active during our waking state and then revitalizes when we sleep.
(iii) Devadatta Upa-Prana – It helps in Yawning and allows the expulsion of gases that may cause body damage. This also helps one to gain extra oxygen to the body and reduce tiredness after eating.
(iv) Krikala Upa Prana– It helps one to Sneeze. This is crucial for it helps in clearing blockages in the respiratory system. Sneezing can also ease headache as it releases energy blockages in the head and neck.
(v) Dhananjaya Upa Prana – This Upa-prana works and helps in the opening and closing of Heart Valves
